Gay is the New Black?
If a picture is worth 1,000 words, then the May-June cover of The Advocate magazine should tell you what this topic is about. Two weeks ago, a columnist for the Washington Post reported that four teens committed suicide in three weeks due to bullying related incidents. This isn't about a cry for help, or sympathy. This isn't about liking gay people because in America, you have the right to choose who you do and don't like. This isn't some infomercial where I sit here and pitch trying my new product. This is about highway robbery, civil rights, and letting your toenails grow out so long you need a chainsaw to clip them down to size. Alright I'm being random now but seriously people calm down, the magazine isn't literally saying gay is the new black but there are similarities that cannot be overlooked. Similarities in popular perception that include the way children are taught to treat homosexuality, the way religion imposes it's influence to subdue the liberties of our common citizens, and the fight to end the prejudice between heteros and homos alike.
I find it interesting that no one seems to be bothered by the fact that many heterosexuals force-feed their unnecessary hatred towards homosexuals on their children. I thought we were supposed to educate our children on these types of topics and allow them to make their own decisions based off of that knowledge they've attained from their informative parents and teachers. We don't do that with homosexuality, we didn't do that before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and we don't do that with religion. We just force one side of the coin and teach the other is pure evil or doesn't exist when 9 times out of 10 it isn't evil and it does exist. At a time where a person is the most intuitive and the most free to use their imagination, we teach to covet one thing and shun the next. Etymology plays a factor in letting us know where certain things come from. Homosexuality comes from a combination of Greek and Latin words and Lesbian comes from the isle of Lesbos, [an island with no male population] where Sappho wrote many times of her emotional relationships with young women. Google it, I'm sure you'll find this somewhere.
Religion is of no help either. They've successfully made this a battle between "good vs. evil" with no evidence that being a homosexual is evil. Just a few crappy scriptures in the Old Testament and some after the death of Jesus. [Jesus never spoke of homosexuality] Long ago, Caucasians would use the bible to execute the Trans-Atlantic slave trade as well as use the bible to prevent blacks from sharing the same freedom as them. We all know the story behind that I'm sure. Many religious leaders are widely outspoken against homosexuality but end up getting busted for homosexual activities as if this is really a crime.
A short list for you, in case you think I'm full of shit:
Ted Haggard
George Rekers
Pope Benedict XVI
Eddie Long
Hell, I'm sure the Lutherans will now welcome you with open arms....as EVERYONE SHOULD do. And let's not mistake ourselves here. We don't care you're gay, we care you lied about it, and fought against it like a dumbass AND YOU'RE GAY! That's grade A stupid and I don't have to explain why anymore. The truth is, homosexuality existed before religion did, the notion that being gay is a choice has not been proven and it hasn't been proven you're born with it yet so stop saying that you choose to be gay, and it HAS been proven that gay/lesbian parents treat their children equal or better than heterosexual parents.
Slaves didn't have half the choices gays do today, however they had a choice: migrate up north for better opportunities and freedom or stay in the south and continue to be overworked, mistreated, and separated from their loved ones. During the segregation days, you had MLK demonstrating that you could speak out for a good cause without violence. You had Malcolm X, who carried out a more radical approach but it was still effective. Now you have Pride parades across the country, you have Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Trans-gendered people [LGBT] an initiative served to ensure equal rights as well as outlets for support are given towards LGBTs. They have community centers, and organizations that work with agencies, and businesses to ensure LGBT candidates are not discriminated against. Blacks had their own fountains, bus seats, restaurant sections, etc. Gays have their own TV Network [LOGO], numerous social sites, and of course, their own clubs. Lastly I want to touch on the progression. Slaves had the Emancipation Proclamation, Segregated blacks had The Civil Rights Act of 1964, and gays, well they're not quite there yet but strides have definitely been made. [Hate crimes won't be tolerated anymore, and we're getting closer to accepting openly gay/lesbian troops]
One more thing: There are many conservative Christian groups out here who stand firmly against homosexuals who promote violence towards them just as the KKK does for blacks. Many black religious leaders take drastic measures to let children know that homosexuality is wrong. Just like there were many Caucasian people of power who taught their children, school children, and others of the like, not to play or talk to "nigger-kids". Blacks were called niggers, Gays are called faggots, and lesbians are referred to as dykes, and they all accept the word internally and condemn anyone on outside looking in from addressing them as such.Gay IS the new Black, in many ways aside from the 3 I gave you today. You don't have to like gays, you don't have to be buddies with one, but please, show some respect. Whether you like it or not, they're people and not all of them want to hit on you. Not all of them fantasize about having you in their bed. Not all of them wish to corrupt your children. It's all in your mind, please get rid of those thoughts. There are far more dangerous people running around at large than homosexuals. And as far as I'm concerned, the only people that choose to be gay are the ones who are so desperate to ejaculate, they engage in sexual activities with their cellmates. I want to leave you with a very inspiring video I saw earlier today. It is pretty [12:55 I think] but trust me, it's WORTH EVERY SECOND.
Until next time...
